How NLP Help Boost Your Confidence

We all know that confidence is vital to us because it acts as an antidote to anxiety. Being confident means not fearing the situation and knowing that no matter what, you can handle it.

This level of confidence is attainable. If you look back at your past experiences, you will realize that there are no challenges that you were unable to overcome.

Confidence is a strange, momentary concept. Everyone wants more of it or stress about not having enough of it. Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) has a range of techniques to help you find out why you don’t have enough confidence and help to boost confidence.

Modeling Confidence

Modeling, in NLP, means mirroring the behaviors of others. This may include- the way someone speaks, what they think about the world, how they stand. Modeling others and Modeling yourself are two ways to improve your confidence.

Modeling others: Notice the behaviors, mannerisms and body language of the people you consider to be confident. Apply this to your own behavior. Try speaking the way they speak, try mirroring their body language and other mannerisms.

However, you do not have Model yourself entirely on one person. It is better to choose elements from different individuals. This helps you discover a model of confidence that is your own.

Modeling yourself: Notice how you speak, stand and behave when you feel confident. Notice things and gather the information. The next time you don’t feel confident, model the confident version of yourself.

Challenging Limiting Beliefs

Quite often, a lack of confidence arises from a belief about a lack of ability. Here’s how you can change that.

  • Identify the situations in which you don’t feel confident. Notice how you feel in those circumstances.
  • Try to identify your limiting belief and underline the negative narrative. For example, if you lack confidence in social situations, the underlying statement might be, “I am not good at speaking.”
  • Once you identify the limiting belief underlying your lack of confidence, you need to question this belief. Analyze it thoroughly.
  • Now, challenge this belief by thinking as many illustrations as possible when it was called into question. It can be anything that disapproves of the aspect of the belief. For instance, to disapprove of the belief of being in an interview that went bad, think of a time when you had a great interview.

By disassembling a belief in this way, you not only demoralize it but also diminish your lack of confidence.

Anchoring

There are times when you may feel unsure, afraid, or anxious; however, you also feel confident and positive. Anchoring helps you to tap into this memory at will.

  • You have to think of a time when you felt confident. After that, meditate on it for a few minutes.
  • When you feel fully in contact with memory, touch a part of your body, like a finger, knuckles, head or anything else.
  • Come out of that memory to the present state. Touch that part again and notice how you feel. Repeat steps until your brain associates you touching that part with the feeling you experience during your memory.

Touching the finger or head, or whatever part you chose, it becomes an anchor and can be used when you next need to improve your confidence.

A lack of confidence usually occurs on the level of competence. You should know that there is nothing wrong if you lack confidence in a given situation. It is merely a sign that you need to acquire and master a new skill or overcome a limiting belief about your current abilities.

The right NLP Training helps you find the root cause of low-confidence, so you can approach a situation from a better, more empowered perspective next time.
