Anchoring: An NLP Technique to Feel Whatever You Want Instantly

Have you ever wished that you could feel amazing whenever you want to? Do you want to learn the secret mantra to feel happy even during the worst moments of your life? If yes, then enroll in an NLP course in Dubai. The lifestyle in Dubai is getting complicated as the cut-throat competition takes a toll on people’s professional, social, and personal lives.

Several NLP techniques help you gain life-long benefits, achieve short- and long-term goals, and cultivate soft skills that academic courses don’t. One of these techniques is anchoring, which allows you to recreate experiences and feelings from your past experiences.

What is an anchor in NLP?

In Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), an anchor represents something/someone in the human nervous system that triggers certain kinds of feelings or another representation.

The same anchor can trigger different feelings in different individuals. For instance, the word ‘fire’ –one person might associate it with a horrible fire accident, the second person might associate it with dancing around a bonfire and feeling happy, and a third person might relate it to cooking a delicious, smoky meal in a tandoor. In this case, the anchor is a word; however, an anchor is not limited to words.

What are the different types of anchors?

Anchors can be referred to any representation associated with sight, smell, sound, feeling, and taste.

  • Visual Anchor: It reminds people of something in the past when they see a particular thing or person. Example: Suppose one of your friends gifted you a purse that has a mirror on the front in the shape of a kitty. You carried it with you to a friend’s gathering and your friends commented on the purse that how funny, beautiful, interesting, or unique it is. Now, whenever you see your purse, it reminds you of the comments and makes you smile.
  • Olfactory Anchor: Smelling certain fragrances can trigger some past experiences. For example, the earthy smell reminds many people of pleasant fragrance that they enjoy when it rains.
  • Tonal Anchor: It involves experiences or representations related to sound. For instance, the special tone someone uses to call your name. Your mother shouting your name might signal you that she had discovered something and you are in trouble. Or, a religious chant that might make you calm and relaxed!
  • Tactile Anchor: A sensation that is associated with a bad or pleasant past experience. Hugging someone in a certain manner can rekindle wonderful feelings, or someone touching you shoulder from behind might reproduce the terrible bullying experience you suffered during college days.
  • Gustatory Anchor: This is the anchor that recreates your past experience when you taste something. For example, eating food in your friend’s house might remind you of how your mother used to prepare a tasty meal for you when you used to live in your hometown.

How does the NLP Anchoring technique help you?

The technique of anchoring is simple but powerful at the same time. It enables you to access the resources you desire regardless of the time or situation. To make the most out of the anchoring technique, it is crucial that you really engage in the experience to vividly reproduce it in your mind.

When you put effort into recalling it the first few times, it activates your NLP anchors. This technique works best when your anchor is strong enough to pull yourself away from the things happening around and help you engage in the experience.

You can identify an experience as a strong anchor when it can be:

  • Reproduced later in a realistic way whenever you think about it regardless of time and circumstances
  • Can be associated with as many representational systems as possible (using sounds, feelings, images, and sensations)

Creating anchors to feel happy, optimistic, and calm is the best way to bring positivity and remain jubilant in your life. This is just one of the many NLP techniques that you will learn during an NLP course.

Learning several other NLP techniques, such as Belief change, Mirroring & Rapport, Six-Step Reframing, Affirmations, Visual Squash, Fast Phobia Cure, Progressive Dissociation, Submodalities, and Storytelling will enable you to live a life and become a person that you always dreamt of.
